Hook began his music career at the age of five playing back what others had played on the piano. He took piano lessons and was playing piano and organ fluently by age nine. He joined the school band in 5th grade at West Decatur Elementary School and played the trumpet. In the 8th grade he changed to Tuba and Sousaphone. By the 9th grade the Jazz Band at Austin High School needed a bass player. So, in the fall of 1971 he began teaching himself the bass guitar and in two weeks time he joined the rest of the Jazz Band in rehearsal. After several successful garage bands and gospel groups, he began doing recording sessions locally with David Humphrey www.jdhumphrey.com at his home studio. Then moved to Muscle Shoals and the Florence area to work in the studios. He attended UNA while writing songs and recording in the late 1970's. Blair Colson www.myspace.com/blaircolson called one day and had an offer to join a house band in Tuscaloosa, Al. called 2 Dollar Pistol. The band eventually went on the road for three years and two name changes (City Magic and then Silverlining. Hook left the road life but continued the quest of the music profession and he has been with and met many well know Artist over the years. Such as Roy Clark, Olivia Newton John, Doobie Brothers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Starship, Bob Segar just to name a few. He has produced other artist as well as engineered and worked with other musicians who have been on the road with Artist like Donna Summer, Karen Wheaton, Dion Farris, Rick James, Eric Essex, BeBe & CeCe Winan, Will McFarland, Kerry Livren (of Kansas), Pat Matheny, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Hook leads Praise and Worship at The Church at Quail Creek whenever he can. Now he's just a laid back old cat who can groove with the best of them! Drop him a line at: |
