Jordan Stover is a 12-year-old girl who lives in Trinity, Al. and attends school at West Morgan Elementary. When Jordan was born in 1995 everything seemed great and then she had her first seizure at 6 months of age. Her parents started with doctors in Huntsville, Al., then went to Birmingham, Al., Vanderbilt Un iversity, Shriners Hospital, and the Mayo Clinic in MN. None of these could give a diagnosis other than developmental delays with seizure disorder. In September of 2007 Jordon was finally diagnosed with Glucose Transporter Deficiency Syndrome (GLUT 1 DS). This is a condition where the body does not transport enough glucose to the brain through the spinal fluid. Dr. De Vivo at Columbia University in New York City, NY. identified this condition in 1991. Jordon is his 123rd diagnosed case world wide! Jordon and her mom traveled to New York in December of 2007 so that Jordon could become part of Dr. De Vivo's study group and help him find a cure! Until a cure is found, Jordon and her mom hope to travel to China in April 2008 for Jordon to have stem cell treatments. The are stem cells gathered from umbilical cords of healthy babies and then injected either by IV or spinal taps into the bloodstream.

Six treatments cost $25.900 and that does not include airfare, meals, transportation, etc. while in China. In addition to her injections Jordon will have physical, occupational, and speech therapies for 6 hours a day 6 days a week while there. They have seen the quality of life of one Glut 1 DS patient who had this treatment improve to the point where she is now able to ambulate with only one cane and eight months before the treatments she was almost totally wheelchair bound!!  After talking with this family and seeing their positive results, her friends and family feel that they owe Jordon the opportunity to gain a better quality of life and have the ability to be a more  "typical" teenager.

The Stovers family response to the overwhelming support has been:

"We are always grateful for everyone's prayers and support."
